Over the past several years, the Florida Academy has taken
great strides to modify and improve its organizational structure. In the
process, we have been successful in increasing the level of involvement of
many of our members. The FAPD’s membership roster includes many of the
premier pediatric dentists in the State of Florida.
Why should I join?
The
Academy is involved in
many endeavors on behalf of both the pediatric dentists in Florida as well
as the children that we treat. Among these are:
Participating, along with the Florida Academy
of Pediatrics, in a lawsuit to improve access to medical and dental care
for indigent children.
Working with the Agency for Health Care
Administration to help prevent overzealous prosecution of Medicare
provider dentists for what is perceived as minor infractions and honest
errors.
Monitoring and providing input into plans for
physicians to provide dental services to Medicaid eligible recipients,
such as fluoride vanish applications. The FAPD wants to ensure that, if
such a program is put into place, it is done safely and properly.
Monitoring the Board of Dentistry and
representing pediatric dentists before it. Dr. Butch Bunn and Dr. Bob Primosch have made significant presentations to the Board of Dentistry on
behalf of pediatric dentists.
The Academy continues to present well
respected, extremely well qualified pediatric dentistry candidates to the
governor when vacancies become available on the Board of Dentistry. It
has been 20 years since a pediatric dentist has been a member of the Board
of Dentistry.
Monitoring and communicating with the State
government regarding dental matters through our capable advocate, Senator
John Grant, our own leaders and through cooperation with the FDA.
Sending representatives to, and participating
with, the many organizations that support children’s oral health in
Florida.
Sponsor the
Charlie Fain Award given to a senior dental student at Nova Southeastern
University and the University of Florida who excels in pediatric
dentistry.
Representing
pediatric dentists before the Florida Dental Association.
